Thanks for the update - I spent several hours with various attempts... and now I don't even get the white screen with 371 anymore - it just cycles the red light. Thankfully I'm within the warranty period so it's going back.
Weird that software can render a device inoperable

I had the very same problem with a BB 8120 handset.The wipe procedure passed well, but the OS flashing procedure failed after the 1st step. The OS was v4.5, I tried like 10 times, but got always the same result.... ERROR 314.
The solution was install the v4.3 OS, that I've found HERE. It's a default OS for this phone, unbranded, my provider is Movistar, Telefonica, but if I try to install their OS (v4.5), I've always got a "Device Error - 371".
