Yup..... The wi-fi solution is the only way I've been able to update mine. It's a crappy way to do it, because wi-fi isn't always accessible, other than going to the malls and coffee shops where it's available, but..... That's how they get feet through the doors.
I've read a few comments on crackberry.com with regards to Blackberry being aware of the problem. Apparently, they're working on solving it..... But, that was 2 months ago..... "DOH!"
So, off to the mall I go (vomitfartburp!), because I just discovered I need a BB I.D. update AGAIN! What a blerrie las (that's in Afrikaans to all the non-SA folks)..... C'mon BB, you're better than that..... I think!

go to options click on advance options go to TCP/IP enable APN, under that is apn next to that type in Internet and save it

This is a previously reported issue that has been escalated internally to our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available.

Workaround 1:

  1. Locate a Wi-Fi® hotspot.
  2. Connect to Wi-Fi hotspot.
  3. Attempt BlackBerry Identity upgrade.


Workaround 2:

  1. On the BlackBerry smartphone, select Options > Advanced Options > TCP/IP
  2. Enable APN Settings
  3. Within the APN field, enter Internet
  4. Save the settings
  5. Remove the battery from the BlackBerry® smartphone
  6. Insert the battery into the BlackBerry smartphone
  7. Open BlackBerry App World
  8. Attempt upgrade

Note: Once completed, revert APN settings back to normal.

Workaround 3:

Follow the steps below to permit insecure renegotiation for TLS:

  1. on the Home Screen of the BlackBerry smartphone select Options
  2. select Security
  3. scroll down to Advanced Security Settings
  4. scroll down to TLS
  5. check the box labeled Permit Insecure Renegotiation
  6. press the Menu key
  7. select Save
  8. download the BlackBerry ID application again.

Hi i also live in SA i had the same prob for a month! i managed to correct mine the following way,

Go to options-select the advanced options then scroll down to TCP/IP select it, on top enable the APN, right below that next ot APN type internet and save the settings, go back to appworld and it will update bb id an allow you to connect with app world! good luck:smileyhappy:

Hi go to options, select advanced options scroll down to TCP/IP select it on top enable APN then right below that next to APN type internet, save the settings and ga back to app world it will update you id and allow you to connect with app world good luck! I have the same model and it works fine on mine now!
