Hello
I bought a blackberry curve 8900 few months ago, and I was doing update installations when my laptop turned off accidently. Since then, when I turn on my blackberry, It doesn't show the regular screen. It shows a screen with the following text:
BlackBerry Platform 4.2.0.113, Options, Saved Messages. And when I click on Options, I get this error message
Error Startingnet_rim_bb_options_app:Module'net_rim_locationapi' not found.
PLEASE HELP!!!

It sounds as if the update you attempted only went part way and your device is now crippled. Here are a few instruction sets that might prove helpful:

Hopefully something there will get you going again.
Good luck!

RIM is obviously not doing anything to fix it. Now I know why others are moving on from Blackberry to iPhone, Samsung Galaxy III etc. I've been a Blackberry fan & user since 2004 & getting irritated by the same issues. I've tried everything, reseting my phone, reinstalling the OS etc., but still I'm not able to go to my options menu. I can't even change my 'profiles'; I have to reboot my phone & then quickly change profile to another mode, after I change it, I cannot change it back until I reboot again. It's ridiculous to think that 3rd party apps are to blame for this - so then why bother even providing access to apps if it's not going to work w/ the phone?! I hate to say it but I'm getting SICK & tired of this & am now seriously considering leaving Blackberry in January & switching over to another phone that allows me to actually USE it! The ONLY thing that has kept me a BB user for this long is the KEYBOARD, but I'm starting to think it's not worth the 'blackberry thumb' anymore. I wish RIM would get their "STUFF" together!!!!! ![]()

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I understand your need to vent, but you do realise that this thread is more than 3 years old, right? If, in your venting, you were expecting this thread to be updated with new information, then you misunderstand the purpose of this site...it is not a "trouble ticket" system that would require constant follow up of all posts until closed. Rather, it's a user-to-user community of volunteers who try their best to help others out. It has nothing whatsoever to do with any formal support at all.
For your situation, there are plenty of possibilities...but narrowing down to the root cause will require you to do some work...here are some ideas for you to try...
At the top of each device forum, there should be some "sticky" threads that discuss the OS levels available for many models. If they include your model, then please use those as reference as you proceed. Otherwise, you will have to dig through the official download portal for OS packages for your model:
From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
You may also want to investigate the use of BBSAK (bbsak.org) to perform the wipe it is capable of.
You may also want to try this procedure to perhaps narrow down the precise causal item:
When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.
If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.
If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
Good luck and let us know!
