Re: HELP!! HALF CHARACTERS!

hmmm, 140?

SMS is normally 160.

Twitter is 140.

Do you recall which you're concerned about?

Re: HELP!! HALF CHARACTERS!

OK, that's 160 characters and most mobile providers allow you combine multiple messages for over 160 characters

So, please tell, where are you seeing this limited to 70?

Re: HELP!! HALF CHARACTERS!

South african std sms 140 characters, 146 to be exact. Or that's what I had! Sure I can combine multiple txt messages, but the question is why the sudden reduction? Could expect something like that after an upgrade, not out the blue?

Re: HELP!! HALF CHARACTERS!

OK.

Could you answer my question above?

And, have you called your mobile provider to ask why it's been cut in half (almost half)?

SMS is controlled by the carrier, not BlackBerry.

Re: HELP!! HALF CHARACTERS!

I had the exact same problem today! I searched online and found out how to change it.

from your text message screen, press the blackberry button and  go to "options" >>> scroll down to "Data coding" and switch it from UCS2 to 7 bit.  I tried it on my phone and now I have 160 characters! Whoohoo.

Anyway, I hope this helps to anyone who has encountered this problem. I was foolish and did a factory reset on my phone (and inevitably lost all my info) before discovering that i only had to change a setting on the phone. lol.
