Finally got an answer, hoping you are a vodacom subscriber cause this should sort you out too then.
A Vodacom Network cable in Germiston is broken which is affecting Vodacom subscribers in and around Johannesburg so you will notice that at times your phone will work when you cross over into another area etc.
They have technicians working on it but can't give a time.
