 I am experiencing  a glitch on my Curve 8520 specific to the installed software version (5.0.0.900) : it doesn't ring when I receive a call or text.  Apparently version 5.0.0.681 does not have this problem. I want to downgrade the phone software.

Can someone tell me the step-by-step process to downgrade the phone, including a link where I can download version 5.0.0.681 ? Thank you

From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:

Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. You can even use a different carriers OS package by simply inserting, between steps 1 and 2, the deletion, on your PC, of a file named VENDOR.XML. Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.

If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

Where can i find and download version 5.0.0.681 ? And how can i make sure this is the version loaded onto the phone during the downgrade process? Thank you

Inside of the instructions I linked for you for doing this via PC, there is a further link to the official download portal for all carriers...that's where you find the OS package you desire. You will have to do some homework of your own...the OS packages are not sorted by device model or OS level; rather, they are sorted by carrier since each carrier is responsible for releasing the OS packages for the devices that they support on their own network. So you need to find carriers that support the 8520 and then go to their download site (via the portal) to obtain the OS package. For simplicity, you could start with your own carrier and see if perhaps they have the specific OS package that you desire.

As for knowing what version will install...well, I did say to remove all other OS packages from your PC...so there will only be one installed to your PC, so that can then be the only source of the OS install process.
