i recently got the 8350i for nextel and i can only find the option to send a PIN and an email message and i am having trouble sending a regular text message
Do you see an option to send an MMS Message? if so, this is a "Multi-Media Message", in order to send it like an SMS leave the Subject Line blank, only type in the body of the message, the reciepients will get it like an SMS.
BlackBerry 8350i has rugular SMS senging option. This should be listed under Messages -> click Menu and select Compose SMS Text. If you can't find the option then contact with your carrier.

Give reset to your device by removing the battery for 30sec. SMS should be there as this is basic GSM feature and common accross all Blackberry devices.
