How to block stolen BB Curve?

My BB which is being used by my family has been stolen when the thief broke into our car.

I have already reported to provider but they said they only can block the number.
What's the point blocking the number since the thief can change the sim card immediately?
Bad thing is I haven't activate the BB protect and locator. How to block the handset. 

. Any advice?

                 Sorry for your Loss, All Carriers are not able to Block or Blacklist any device, It depends on Carriers.Please read this article for further help    Lost or Stolen BlackBerry -- What to do?

There are some service provider who block the IMEI of the device. But this is solely depends of teh operators capability.
