How to do a backup and security wipe of Blackberry Curve.

Hi all, first time poster, second time viewer............if that makes sense!

New job and am supporting BlackBerry devices for the first time (mainly because I have one, ergo; I'm an expert!). Not a problem it's always good to learn new stuff..............

Okay, this is my problem - I have a user who can't reply to emails - i've already read a couple of posts that were all on the money as to why and how to resolve them. My problem is I need to perform a back up and security wipe, but don't know how and was hoping that someone could steer my the right way. This being a business user I don't want to screw it up and lose\delete her emails and addresses, etc.

Also does it matter that we are using Notes and Domino (Boo!) instead of Outlook and Exchange? And is this an easy process to perform?

Many thanks.

Re: How to do a backup and security wipe of Blackberry Curve.

Follow the below steps for Backing up BlackBerry device -

1. Connect your device using USB cable

2. Click on Backup and Restore

3. Click on Backup button

4. Select the location where you want to keep the backup data

5. Click Ok to proceed

Note: I've described processes according to desktop manager 4.5. You can download it from here.

For wiping your handheld follow the below steps -

1. Go to Options

2. Security Options

3. General Settings

4. Click Menu button

5. select Wipe Handheld

6. type in blackberry to proceed

Hi there...

Just found this post....I'm really green...

I don't have my BB backed up so I found this very interesting....so if I want to back up my phone/address book on my blackberry to my computer, I can use this backup procedure?

Hi leenet13,

This is not the backup procedure for you.

This is for a device that has a problem.

Please open a new thread and we'll go over it ok?

Wow.  Thank you so much.

I'm not sure what happened, but all of a sudden I was unable to delete emails off my phone.  After fiddling around with backup and restore I somehow managed to quadruple (600!) my emails and was paniced.  I followed your instructions and everything worked exactly as discribed and I'm up and running again with the ability to delete emails!  Smiley Happy

Thanks so much

Just want to ask that wiping only 'USER INSTALLED APPLICATION' in the Security Wipe Section would bring about erasure of USER's Account to BB App World.
