Internet browser not working on Blackberry Curve 8530

[ Edited ]

When I try to go to a website, it simply says "loading" but the page never actually shows up. What I've tried so far: Battery pull; minor browser configuration changes (like changing the recognition from BlackBerry to Firefox); checking for updates

Blackberry Curve 8530 v5.0.0.654

Re: Internet browser not working on Blackberry Curve 8530

Hi and Welcome to the Community!!

I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):

1) Register HRT

  • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network

2) Delete and Resend Service Books

  • KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
  • KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service

3) Batt Pull Reboot

  • Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact Boost for formal support...you pay them for your services, and they are responsbile for your formal support.

Good luck!

Hello,

If, when you queues the HRT message, you had a strong carrier signal (not WiFi), and the message never arrived, then you need to stop and contact your mobile service provider. Until that step properly completes, nothing else matters. Further, since the system your BB needs to communicate with for this is controlled by your carrier, it is they you need to work with to resolve it.

On some OS levels, you must leave the Data Services set to ON, even if you are using WiFi...the device shifts between WiFi and carrier data network automatically, preferring WiFi if it is available and stable. On newer OS levels, you can turn Data Services to OFF, and they will continue to function via WiFi.

Good luck!

You've misunderstood...it works correctly on any OS, the only difference is that you can shut Data Services OFF on newer OS levels when you have WiFi available. But, with older OS's, the BB still prefers WiFi over Carrier Data Network, even though that setting must be ON. I cannot recall exactly, but I think it was somewhere in the OS7.0 range where that changed. But again, it doesn't matter...if you have WiFi and Data Services ON, your BB will use WiFi. The only difference is how it appears to you...but how it is actually functioning is unchanged. Hence, this item alone is not, IMHO, a useful criteria for deciding whether to update to a newer OS or not.
