It means the software on the device has failed and you need to re-install it.
Download the latest software for this device from your carrier's website. (must be the software the carrier this phone was purchased as)
Once downloaded to the computer, double click the file to install it, then plug in the device and use the 'app loader' icon from the desktop manager program.
See below for further info.

I have the same problem, the phone keeps rebooting, PC can't connect, tried all the software on the net.
The phone company wants 200.00 to fix, what a joke, 1 month past the warranty.

Thank you for this information. I have a 8310 that did the same thing today and my carrier is AT&T. It took a while and a couple of "Retry" sessions but it got my BB working again. Unfortunately I have to put applications back on it and the numbers I had saved on my phone (not on my SIM card) are all gone.
Is there anyway to get those numbers back? I don't understand; when you download the desktop manager and device software it said it would back up the information I guess I didn't see what information would be backed up. I thought my numbers would be fine.
