Lock in Holster - Not!

[ Edited ]

I just got a BB8900 (with OS 4.6.1) to replace my BB8820 (with OS 4.5), but it appears to be defective. I have turned on "Lock Handheld Upon Holstering" (under Options - Password), but it doesn't lock when I put it in the holster. I have tried it in two different holsters. The behaviour is the same whether the option is set to "Yes" or to "No". The BB8820 performs as expected, but the setting is in a different place in the options hierarchy (under Options -Security Options - General Settings). Is this a HW problem, or is there something I can do to make this work? Has anyone else experienced this problem?

P.S. I guess it's not a HW problem, since "Lock Handheld Upon Hostering" works in the sleeve provided with the BB8900.

Based on what I've seen elsewhere, it's a problem with the BB belt holster.  I guess I'll have to look for another model.

Re: Lock in Holster - Not!

Hi There!

Typically, this has to do with using a holster and BB model that are not specifically made for each other. Each BB has it's sensor in a slightly different place, quite often making the holsters NOT interchangeable. Hence, using a holster from one model might prevent the other model from sensing that it is holstered and therefore not locking. I suggest getting a holster that is specifically for the model of BB that you wish to function in this manner and not attempting to use generic or holsters designed for other model BBs.

Good luck and let us know!

Re: Lock in Holster - Not!

If you are using the 8900 in the 8820 holster, you'll need to feel around the holster and slide the insert magnet around to the area that will lock the 8900 when inserted.

On my 8900 the magnet sensor is located in / underneath the area of the "Space" button on the keypad :smileyhappy:

What is the answer to the same question when you have a BB9700 and the original holster and have upgraded yet the 'Lock in Holster' still does not work?????
