BB Curve 8310, OS 4.2 (AT&T)

I recently downloaded some trial software and want to install on my 8310 Curve. When I connect to my desktop, I receive a message "Do you want to turn on Mass Storage Mode?" There is a disclaimer that "You may not be able to access media" or something similar?

I responded No. Couldn't find any information in the pdf manual provided by AT&T.

Questions:

1. What is Mass Storage Mode? Storage on the card? (I think I have a 1 Gb card.)

2. Should I answer Yes or No when I'm installing software? Why or why not?

Hi and welcome to the forums!

It's just asking if you want to be able to see the memory card on the computer (so you can add or remove files on it).

 Here are the options that should be set: 

Media Card window ON 

 Encryption NONE 

 Mass storage support ON

Auto enable when connected  YES

  On your media card do you have these folders?

Blackberry

Pictures

Music

Ringtones

Videos

Voicenotes
This is the folder structure that the Blackberry needs to allocate the media to.

Mass Storage Mode enables your Media Card on the BB to be viewed by your PC as a removable drive, much like a thumbdrive, etc., from which you can easily drag and drop files back and forth from your PC and BB.

2. Should I answer Yes or No when I'm installing software? Why or why not?

Answer Yes, I use that mode and its easy moving media files.

So.. How do I view the card to see what the structure is? With the BB not connected to the PC?

Hi,

Once you have mass storage mode on, simply use the USB cable that you sync with and plug it into a USB port.

In windows explorer it will show as a flash drive would. You can then create the appropriate folders.

When it's time to add media to the card, just drag and drop to the corresponding folders.

On the BB (not connected to the USB) go to your Media Icon > Menu > Explore.

You should see the Device Memory and Media Card listed.
