While looking at the email Inbox, I was unable to use the menu button or the scroll button. It would work while in the Messages application, but not in the email application. The only way I could get it to work was to reboot the system by taking the battery out. Any ideas why this happens or how to prevent it? Thanks!

Welcome to the forums ![]()
A battery pull clears most software issues that occur on blackberries from time to time. You could also use Quickpull, a free app that simulates a battery pull without physically removing the battery: http://software.crackberry.com/product.asp?id=2766
A battery pull reclaims memory lost during application usage and clears minor software errors that creep in over time. The blackberry runs an OS just like your PC runs windows and the battery pull is the equivalent of a reboot/restart on your computer.

Like I said, I did pull the battery, which fixed it temporarily. I'll try the application you suggested, but am still wondering why it happened and how to prevent it from happening in the future. Thanks.

I keep hearing that a battery pull fixes most erroneous BB behaviors. Am I understanding that there's no rhyme or reason as to why these things are happening, and no way to prevent them from happening in the future?

Hi Jill:
I hope Kijanasmart's post helped with your issue. And, yes, there are reasons why such behaviors occur.
Think of your BB like you do your PC. If memory get low, your device is prone to anomalous behaviors such as you are experiencing. There are several things you can do to help prevent this however.
There is also the free app called Quickpull that Kijanasmart mentioned as well. Quickpull will simulate a battery pull without your having to actually pull the battery. Check it out here: Quickpull
I have mine set to restart every morning at 4:30 so my BB is refreshed and ready to go each day. Sometimes, however, a real battery pull seems to do an even better job such as when you have installed any 3rd party apps or when your BB just feels sluggish from prolonged use (like posting in these forums
smileyhappy:.
When you have anomalous behavior in your BB a battery pull often helps to clear it up too.
I hope this helps. Let us know how it goes. And keep coming back.

I thank you kindly IrwinII!!! This is the best response to a problem I've received yet! Though it's difficult for me to think of my BB like I do a PC since I have a Mac and it doesn't have the same issues as a PC, but still. I appreciate your response and will keep those things in mind.

PS: How do I get it to restart automatically every morning?

Thank you kindly Jill!
That's why I say to keep coming back. There are many, very helpful, users all over the forums.
Once you have Quickpull installed and rebooted your PC er Mac, er BB, just select Quickpull from the homescreen and select schedule, set your preferred time for restart, select ok and you're done.
You can also use Quickpull any time you see your device getting sluggish and you want to clear it up. Just select QP from the home screen.
