Micro SD cards supported by an 8300

I'm not sure what capacity micro SD card my 8300 Curve will comfortably support.  I have updated the phone's handheld software to version 4.5.0.55 (Platform 2.7.0.68), and would like to upgrade to a higher capacity micro SD card than my current 1Gb one.  I spoke to a member of the O2 technical support team this morning, who told me it made no odds what version of the software I had on my phone - the maximum capacity SD card supportable by the phone was fixed due to the phone's hardware at 3Gb.  Was what he said correct?  I'd love to put more stuff on the phone, & I believe things like videos downloaded from YouTube & converted for playing on a BlackBerry work better if you have a larger capacity SD card in the phone - at the moment, any video I play tends to crash after playing for about a minute or so (audio continues, but picture freezes).

Any guidance anyone may be able to give me with regard to this issue would be very much appreciated.

Re: Micro SD cards supported by an 8300

Your people at O2 are silly.

The media card maximum size is according to your OS release version.

Personally, I would recommend you upgrade to a higher 4.5 release, as .55 is old and was not so great as I recall.

BlackBerry Device Software  --------Media Card Size Limit

BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.0 -- Up to 2 GB

BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1 -- Up to 4 GB

BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.2 -- Up to 4 GB

BlackBerry Device Software 4.3.0 -- Up to 8 GB

BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0 -- Up to 8 GB

BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0.81 and above -- Up to 16 GB

BlackBerry Device Software 4.6.0 -- Up to 32 GB

Agreed. Whoever you spoke to with O2 was talking out of their butt.

Re: Micro SD cards supported by an 8300

Thanks for taking the time & trouble to get back to me on this...I thought I'd read somewhere online about the phone's software version having a bearing on what capacity of SD card it could support, & then when the lad I spoke to earlier today told me it made no difference, I thought I'd see if what he was saying was right. I'm afraid the version of the phone's software I have at present is the most recent the O2 people here in the UK have authorised for users of my phone to download, but I'll keep an eye out for the 4.5.0.81 version on 02's download page...hopefully they'll make it available for us lot over here who are with them to download sometime soon! As usual, you lot over in the US get better service than we do! Lucky sods! Anyway, thanks again.

Actually, no. The US carriers have been notoriously slow to release the official OS updates. Tmobile, ATT, and Verizon were among the last on the planet to make it official for their customers, and Sprint has still not.

Fair enough...seems that my attempt at wit has justifiably fallen on stoney ground...I'll consider the matter now closed & apologise for any offense unwittingly caused.

I picked up your wit! I even smiled!
But I also wished to set the record straight.
