Hi and Welcome to the Community!
First, please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
Second, your theory may well be correct...but it is also possible that your battery has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem. You also may need to try different charging devices, just in case that is where the problem resides.
Lastly, RIM provides zero front line support to end users, including warranty...all support starts with the carriers, authorized resellers, and authorized service centers, all who can escalate cases into RIM at no charge to the end user. When you obtained your BB, you should have received documentation instructing you as to exactly the terms of your warranty along with how to seek support under your warranty.

Good luck and let us know!

on number 2 on the first one would it make a difference if you leave the plug in longer
Hi and Welcome to the Community!
In rare cases, yes...if the battery has been badly depleted, 4 hours on each of the "leave it to charge" steps can make a difference. But, truly, if the BB won't boot after 2 hours of charging, even if well depleted, then there likely is something else wrong...you might go 2 hours on step 2, but then 4 hours (or more) after it boots up.
Good luck!
