Has it ever been connected? Do you have a blackberry data plan?
If you don't have a data plan contact your carrier and see what options they offer.
If you do have a blackberry data plan then try the following:
1. Go to options - advanced - host routing table, press the menu key and select register now.
2. Do a hard reset - remove the battery, wait 30 seconds and restart.
Both should result in a message in your universal unbox confirming your handset has been registered.
If the above 2 points do not work call your carrier and see if there is a problem there end.

I've got the same issue, but I just inherited my BlackBerry from a relative, who had a data plan with it before me. So if i just tap register will that solve the problem or do i need to set up my own plan?
