The 8520 does not include GPS built-in to the hardware of the device and cannot be achieve through any software upgrade or add-on. It is a hardware chip. Your cousin might actually have an "8530" model, which does include the GPS hardware. Check the model at Options > About, top line will be the model #.
Also, you may be able to use to use your cell tower location for a general ability to locate yourself using Facebook Places, but it will not be with pinpoint accuracy.

myself and most of my friends have the blackberry curve 8520 and i couldnt access places and they could. they didnt have a different model. but i found out that my software was running on 4.2 and u needed at least 4.5 or smthn like that to access places. so i upgraded the software,and now mines running on 5.0 and i can access places and have the new fb. try this cos it wrkd for me,but remember to back up everything cos one of my mates lost all her contacts. hope it wrks
