Re: My phone keeps freezing.....a little black square shows up in the middle of the screen

Okay, this happened to me a lot with my old phone. Basically, your phone is overloaded, its took in too many tasks while its been on. Take the battery out and back in and the square (which is a clock) will show up on a black screen for appoximately 60 seconds. Then, your phone will come back on. It may show up again for 4 seconds or so but then you will be fine :smileyhappy: Hope this helps!

Hello carlosthegooner

Welcome to BlackBerry Support Forums

Generally that spinning clock or hourglass appears when our device undergo low memory or if any application runs in the background  or because of any unknown Third party application installed within our device .Sometime a battery pull restart is enough to resolve this issue.

If we  press and hold the Menu for a few seconds, it will pop up a screen which will show all running programs in the background ,generally five will always there ( Home, BBM, Message,Phone , Browser ) look if any other apps. are running.

We should always try to Close Applications Correctly - Avoid using the End key to close applications as this simply minimizes the application and leaves it running in the background. Instead, press the Menu key, select the Close or Exit option to exit the application.Don't leave your Browser open when not in use.If programs run in the background it will also lead to overheating and also quick battery drainage. Please have a look at those Article I am sure it will help you a lot in overcoming your problems :

KB14320 : How to maximize battery life and free memory on the BlackBerry smartphone.

Also Check the File Free at Options > Status > Check File FreeIn addition have you enabled Memory Cleaner on your device?  Options > Security > Memory Cleaner,  is it enabled ? If it is then disable it because  It is also responsible for device  freezing and clocking.

If even after that issue persists then you should try reloading your device software , look at this relevant Knowledge Base for help :
