Some networks don't support 2G anymore due to the fact of incoming 4G. Also phones were found to going into spontaneous reboots when switching from 3G to 2G when the phone lost 3G. These factors could have contributed to 2G being removed from recent os releases.
I'm hoping that 3rd party electronics houses see a market for the manufacture of higher end Batteries for curve series. This should be evident to them if they keep with threads like these.
