No Maps appear

Going nuts here!

I have been trying to access the maps on my Blackberry Curve 8900. I receive the following message "Your current default services do not provide access to map data" when I click on the map icon. All I then get is thin diagonal black and white lines. The Blackberry tells me that it has located my position with the GPS and found the satellites, but I have no map to see where I am. Orange Switzerland, the mobile phone operator say they have tried everything and they can no longer help. What can I do to receive the maps?

P.S. Pls take it step by step........ it's my first time here!

Thanks in advance.....

AK

Re: No Maps appear

ak, Greetings, and welcome to the BlackBerry.com Support Forums.

Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan enabled on your account with your carrier or mobile provider?

You must, in order to get the RIM push email functions you are looking for, as well as addtional BlackBerry data services such as the BlackBerry Maps, internet browser, Facebook for BlackBerry, BlackBerry Messenger, and much more.

So, call your carrier an inquire about having the BlackBerry Data Plan added to your account.

Good luck.

Re: No Maps appear

Hi,

I've been on their case for two weeks and they have re-loaded all the software, apps data service books and anything else they could think of.

Is there something I need to change on the handheld?

Re: No Maps appear

Hi all,

I have exactly the same kind of issue with my blackberry  curve and Orange Switzerland. They are really bad -> unable to troubleshoot the issue !

Here is my case:

1. I have a data plan

2. I am registred at Orange Blackbery services (BIS located at http://www.blackberry.orange.ch/)

3. After pushing my available services from http://www.blackberry.orange.ch/  menu "Aide" and then: "Envoyer les annuaires de services", I finally get BB Map icone on my device

4. Then I got the following error: "Les services par défaut sélectionnés ne comprennent pas l'accès aux données cartographiques"

5. I called many many many times Orange to solve this issue. They tried something on their BIS and after that, my device was not working anymore (unable to boot: "Error 202" with a nice white screen during boot time)

6. I sent my device to the support center (to get a new one back -> a device able to boot the OS): They said it was a Hardware problem on the device ! I just don't believe them...

7. Now I have again the same message: "Les services par défaut sélectionnés ne comprennent pas l'accès aux données cartographiques"

Is it so hard to put a Map software on a mobile device !!?? I am a software engineer and I never saw so many problem putting a J2ME or any other software on a mobile device !

Any help would be appreciated as Orange seems to be so lost...

Thank you in advance.

Joël

Re: No Maps appear

In the future, please learn to create your own thread when you have your own personal issue to discuss... even if your issue might be "similar" the originally posted. yours is not the same, and posting in a existing thread like this just clutters the original posters thread.
The "New Message" link is at the top left of each forum section page.

JSanders,

I believe my explanations were not clear enough, but I have exactly the same problem !

When I run my BB Map software, I got the following message:

"Les services par défaut sélectionnés ne comprennent pas l'accès aux données cartographiques"

Which is exactly the same message as Koppel (but in french):

"Your current default services do not provide access to map data"

And I exactly have the same thin diagonal black and white lines shown into my BB Map application. I just provided the full case (process I already did with Orange) in order to show what I already tried to do to solve this issue !

Thank you anyway for your tip. Any way to solve this issue ?

Joël

Do you have THE BlackBerry Data Plan? It appears you do.

Do this on your device.

On all model BlackBerrys, first make certain that you in an area of good signal coverage AND outside with a clear view of the sky in an open area of no tall buildings.

For GSM network devices, do this:
Click Options > Advanced > GPS > Menu > Refresh GPS.
Give it up to 10 minutes to refresh, and try 2-3 times in a row.
Also, read this: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/dynamickc.do?externalId=KB12203&sliceId=SAL_Public&command=show&forwa...

Yes, sure ! I pay this service which is not working (at least for BB Maps)...
My GPS is working perfectly well (I can use it with Google Maps -> I have about 5 satellites signals). The problem is with BB Maps. I get my location but there is no map in the back ! Only a red point is provided with a white background -> no maps :-(
The error message I have "Your current default services do not provide access to map data" Seems to say that my BIS is not providing me map data (the map which should be set as background in BB Maps)...

Re: No Maps appear

Yep, that is exaclty what it sounds like.

Try this, (since BBMaps are controlled by service books)

On your BlackBerry device, go to:

1. Options > Advanced > Host Routing Table > Menu > Register.

2. Resend your service books from your carrier BIS site:
From your handheld device:   http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB15402

Go to the Personal Email Set Up icon and log in. Then under Help!, select Service Books, then select Send service Books.

From your desktop PC:  http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02830
North American Carriers - scroll down to select your carrier
WorldWide Carriers - Find your carrier on the list

3. With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot. This reboot, even if you have already done this, is often needed to install the service books.
