Not a happy camper

I have owned my Blackberry 8520 Violet since July and have been very happy with it. I even brought my daughter a 9320 for Christmas.

However since Friday last week neither of us are able to use BBM or the internet at home on our phones.

Every BBM we send ends up with a red cross beside it, and Whatsapp isnt much better. We are unable to access the even the Blackberry home screen as it just loading and loading.

I have trawled your forums this evening and used various tips to try and rectify these issues. I have also made 3 calls to my provider Vodafone but nothing seems to work.

Please before I throw my phone out in the snow can someone help me : (

Re: Not a happy camper

Hi and Welcome to the Community!!

Sadly, since you've not divulged what you've already tried, we risk wasting your time with potentially redundant suggestions...we just can't intuit what those "various tips" you've already tried are.

Nevertheless I'll take that risk...I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):

1) Register HRT

  • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
  • Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app

2) Resend Service Books

  • KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
  • Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.

3) Batt Pull Reboot

  • Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then please do enumerate what you've already tried along with your complete symptom list, including if ANY services are working at all, or if it truly is just BBM and Internet (which I interpret as web browsing), but that other things (e.g., Social Networking) are all working fine.

Good luck!

Re: Not a happy camper

thank you for replying so quick : )

I have re registered the phone 3 times in the last 2 days, the message to say that this has been successfull has taken on average 12hours to come through.

I am unable to resend the Service Books as it will not allow me to access the internet/emails.

I have already pulled the battery 6 times these evening, leaving it out for at least 10mins on 1 occasion.

the only things i am able to use on the phone at my home are text messages and phone calls. No BBM, Whatsapp, emails, Facebook nothing

However if was in work which is 6 miles away things would almost be working normally.

All of these problems started last Friday, up until then there were no issues at all!!!

That is definitely not right...and your mobile service provider should be working with you for that...given that symptom, I'd not expect anything to work correctly. Your mobile service provider is 100% responsible for all of your service-level support...and they have the ability to escalate up to RIM for enhanced support if they cannot resolve it. I recommend you push back to them -- and don't let them fob you off.

Given the above, it's probably moot anyway...but there is more than one method to do this listed in that KB. The method you mention is only one of them...

Again, given the HRT issue, probably moot.

Oh! That sounds like a local tower problem with your mobile service provider. Now I believe you definitely need to be pushing back on them.

Good luck!

Hi and welcome to the forums!

Can you think of any changes made or problems experienced on Friday? Do you use a home WI-Fi network? If you use a wall charger for both units any change of a power spike? Are you on a pay as you go program with Vodafone?

There logically is a common reason for both units to fail independently.

Try the following on both phones:

1) Perform a Hard Reset

2) Click the options icon>device. Note the signal level of both devices.

Please post back the numbers.

Thanks,
