Thanks J,
At about the same time, I got a message from Blackberry saying my synchonization was disabled because I had too many contacts, so maybe it was synchronized before and then it stopped.
Do you have a good way to easily get rid of the numerous duplicates on my phone?
Regards,
Sue

Well, if you left it synced to the gmail account, you could easily sit at your PC and delete them.
Are they only on your BlackBerry now?

Yes - I already deleted them all from my google account without the phone connected. Am I screwed?

I think you're fine.
Remove these duplicate contacts (over 18000) from my phone - see here:
How to clear the address book database on the BlackBerry smartphone

You've already done task one when you turned off the wireless sync.
After the sync is turned back on it will pull from gmail.

Just note that by deleting the entire address book from the BlackBerry, you will remove any bad, and good contacts which you may want to keep. So if that specific Address Book contains wanted contacts, do not delete the entire database.

so are you saying that I have to delete each one of the 18000 bad contacts manually?

I hope not! Another option is to remove the email account from your phone using the email setup application. This will remove those contacts associated with the account. When you readd that account using the setup application, it will then sync from gmail.
delete / setup email account:

If there is a problem or error with the email setup application, you can head to blackberry.com/integrate from the device and try to setup the email from there.
Here is some additional info:

Of course plaese backup your phone using the desktop manager before proceeding. @jsanders: does this soundOK?

If you could be clearer about the details, they should not be hard to remove.
Are all 18,000 duplicates on one Address Book only?
Are there ANY good (keepers) contacts in the Address Book?
and you never answered my question above about why you want to move your contacts to your SIM card... If you could answer questions fully, it helps understand what and why you're trying to do certain things.

@Wolf359 - thank you for your suggestion. I deleted my gmail account and reactivated it. I then shut down and rebooted my phone. However, the contacts remained on my phone and the gmail contact list still shows up under Contacts Options. Any other ideas for removing the 18,000 duplicates?
@J - The question about the SIM card was not from me - that was some other person who jumped on my thread - that's why I didn't answer your question. As for your other questions, the gmail account does have all the unwanted duplicates and there are good contacts in the list .

Thanks for that, I didn't notice it was another person. You can clear the contacts using the steps listed above.
