Hi, I've recently got my daughter a new BB to replace her old one. What I want to do is prevent her from making outgoing calls and only allow incoming calls in her contact list. For some unknown reason the parental control app will not allow me to do this without granting access to the phone first. I've been searching everywhere for alternative apps to what seems to me a rather simple thing. Has anyone achieved what I'm trying to do or have any ideas?
Oh, I've tried doing it with my carrier (O2) but they don't do that kind of blocking. It's either barred entirely or not which sucks tbh.

Restrict outgoing calls
hope this works!

Hi and welcome to the forums!
I believe the app is asking for access to the phone to enable the changes you want to implement.
It's not granting random access to the phone for use.
The settings are located under>device>security>parental controls.
Thanks,

I believe this is got bluetooth only isn't it? And I'm guessing it can easily be re-enabled again.

Thanks.
I can only allow incoming calls if I enable access to the phone. Toggling phone greys out the sub-option below it.

I've been through all that and that seems to be all related to bluetooth devices. Thanks, though.

Why don't you want to allow the application access to the phone?
The app needs to access it to complete its purpose.
And to the 'expert', what has this to do with bluetooth?

Perhaps I need to be more clear on what I want to achieve.
I want to prevent the user of the phone from making outgoing calls but be allowed to accept incoming calls ONLY from those that are in the users contacts. Currently, the Blackberry Parental Controls has the option to only accept those that are in the contacts only if I allow the user to use the phone in the parental control settings. Since it would appear that the Blackberry parental controls app can't do this, I'm wondering if there's an alternative app out there that does exactly that. Or even if the Blackberry devs at RIM could be so gracious and expand on this feature that would IMHO make this a top app?
(I very, very, very much doubt it but hey. One can only try).

Don't count on the app update anytime soon...
Meanwhile, have you explored AppWorld for an app more of your liking?
I don't know of one as you describe... but but it might be there. I haven't looked.
