You understand incorrectly. It's that the third party chinese knockoff batteries are just a piece of junk.

Re: Red X Shown On Battery

Hello Everyone, it seems there is a little bit of a debate going on here as to what is going on with replacement Batteries for certain models of Blackberry.

Can I again be quite clear about the problem I had and how it was solved. I work for a Communications company based in Dublin, Ireland. There are about 120 employees 50% of these employees have Blackberry’s which they use for email/phone etc.

One of our employees recently had an issue where the battery would only last for about 2 or 3 hours even after being fully charged. Our Blackberry supplier is O2 and they do not supply replacement batteries, they offered to replace the phone but not wishing to go to such lengths I went to a Mobile Phone shop on the High Street that does supply Blackberry batteries and purchased an identical replacement battery.

The battery would not charge in the phone at all so I returned it to the shop where another shop assistant said that some of the newer Blackberry’s require that the battery code which is present on the battery supplied with the phone at the time of purchase needs to be copied from the existing battery to the replacement battery. This was done for me in the shop using a device apparently supplied by RIM to transfer the battery code.

So this is clearly something that RIM (the Blackberry manufacturer) has put in place for reasons unknown. The replacement battery which is now in place in the phone is working perfectly. And we all lived happily ever after.

Re: Red X Shown On Battery

Tim, that's all understood.

The battery manufacturer does that, not BlackBerry.

I understand what your retail clerk did, I've seen it before.

My earlier reference to the clerk not knowing what he was talking about is that it is nothing new on the "newer batteries"... it's been going on for years.

Glad yours is working well. Good luck.

Re: Red X Shown On Battery

Red Crossed battery issue - THE REAL FIX !!

NOTE: This fix works for me every time with every blackberry but it doesn't mean that it will work for you !!

I found the fix by doing a lot of googling, so if it there is another way to fix that PLEASE LET ME KNOW :smileyhappy:
To fix it, you may need 3 hands :smileytongue:.
If your battery works with other bb's do not throw your bb just yet, try this fix first:

 PROCEDURE:

 1. Take out the battery.
 2. Press reset keys on the blackberry and keep them pressed.
    ( 3 keys: left alt + right shift + del/backspace)

 3. While they're pressed, put in the battery and wait until you see your screen coming up :smileyhappy:.
It might take a long time if this is the first time you do this kind of reset,
but if you see a hour glass symbol, just leave it on for a while and your bb will be come to life again.

Re: Red X Shown On Battery

Counterpart, this procedure I have not tried.

I'll reset the phone software?

I do not want to zeroing phone software, then there is much to tune up the phone and reinstall the programs you use.

For now I will wait for an answer before you take this step.

That process does not reset or reload the device operating system, it only reboots the device.

Re: Red X Shown On Battery

It worked for me, there was no need to remove my battery. I just pressed the  reset keys on my blackberry and kept them pressed.
( 3 keys: left alt + right shift + del/backspace).  my phone did not show the red cross again, but going to take it to a phone technician later today , to make sure everything is fine.
