Request to update password for email account

I received a text from Blackberry asking me to update the password for an email account I have set up on my Blackberry and been using for the last 10 months.  When I try to sign in to the account on my Blackberry, it does not recoginze the password, but when I sign in to my account on the Earthlink web site it does.  Does anybody have any idea what is going on?  My wife just received the same message for her main email account on her Blackberry.
