If restoring via Blackberry Desktop Manager does not work for you, you may want to manually recover your data from your backup. Simply use a 3rd party software that would extract data from the backup, you can just transfer the files back to the device later on. Try Blackberry Backup Extractor, it extracts both IPD and BBB backup files and even encrypted backup files (you need to know the password though).
