Security Wipe, missing features

Hiya folks,

Just been given a Curve 8520 by my son, lucky me. When he gave it to me it had all of his settings  for a different network and wifi settings. So i thought it would be easier to do a full wipe and start a fresh.

However since doing this i have no email setup and no option to update software or wifi .I have tried downloading new software but it gets to the" Check for updates screen" and goes no further. I have to close it down and restart the computer. I have left this to run for over 3hours thinking it may work but to no avail. I have tried it with desktop software running and without, with and without a sim card.

Anybody got any ideas

[ Edited ]

Hi there,

It is also likely that those features are missing because the device needs to be connected to the BlackBerry network.  Go to Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Tables, press the BB Menu button and select Register Now.  That will re-register your device on the BlackBerry network and should download the required info to get your device going.  Be aware that you will need a BlackBerry data plan on your device to do this, so make sure this is set up in advance.  If it's not, contact your carrier to have them do that for you.

Once that is done, you may also need to resend your service books.  The above steps should make your Email Settings appear, and once it does, go to the Email Settings, log in to BIS (if required), press the BB Menu button and select Service Books.  You can then resend your Service Books.

Note:  If that still doesn't work, you may need to reload the OS.  If you need to go that route try the steps here:

That should get you up and running!  :smileyhappy:

Re: Security Wipe, missing features

Thanks Krypto, You were spot on. As soon as I got the Blackberry Data Plan from my network provider, it became a different phone. Everything that was missing reappeared, recognised my wireless router and allowed me to set up email.

My network provider is Vodafone. I obtained the Blackberry Data Plan by calling 40035 from my mobile, selecting option 1

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Please see today's announcement regarding a service outage:

Until this is sorted, troubleshooting your specific problem will likely be pointless.

Good luck!

Re: Security Wipe, missing features

Hi There,

I'm having the same issue with my BB Bold. I have re-registered my phone to the BB network but it will still not allow me to complete the 'set-up' wizard and regain email function.
When trying to activate my email address, it asks for the password to my email account, when that is entered and i select 'activate' it just goes to 'Sorry, unable to continue your session. Please log in again.'

Any suggestions? Please...

Thanks

Hello!!

I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):

1) Register HRT

  • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network

2) Delete and Resend Service Books

  • KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
  • KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service

3) Batt Pull Reboot

  • Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support.

Good luck!

Re: Security Wipe, missing features

Thank you ever so much for your reply/help.

Without wanting to push my luck, I have no idea which service book i should be deleting. The email address i am trying to get working is a hotmail.co.uk address. What name would i be looking for within the service books?

Thanks again
