Sudden drop in battery life.

The battery life on my 9360 has never been brilliant - 1.5 to 2 days at most - but over the last couple of days it's taken a huge turn for the worse.

Last night, for example, I went to bed at 2300, when the phone was showing 60% battery life. The phone is switched off from 2330 to 0759. When the alarm went off at 0800, the battery indicator was flashing red! I immediately put the phone on charge, but after 10 mins the icon was still red. After a reboot, the battery was showing 30%.

Can anyone suggest what is wrong? I've tried cleaning the battery contacts, but that doesn't appear to have made any difference. As far as I can tell, there are no applications running, apart from those you can't shut down, such as BBM and the browser.

Re: Sudden drop in battery life.

Hello,

It is possible that either your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:

  1. Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
  2. Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens

The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.

You may also want to test using Safe Mode:

Good luck and let us know!

Re: Sudden drop in battery life.

I've ordered a replacement battery. Unfortunately I don't know anyone else who has a BB, and I sold my old one, so let's hope the problem lies with the battery.

Re: Sudden drop in battery life.

And let us further hope that the new battery is not defective...while rare, it is certainly possible. The best test is to trade batteries with someone who has an identical BB, but has no issues -- unfortunately, you can't conduct that test quite as precisely as intended, but hopefully it will be good enough.

Good luck!
