I just purchased a Curve 8530. After launching Desktop Manager and connecting phone via USB cable, I select Synchronize option from main menu. When I try to download my contacts from Outlook, I get a dialog box saying that my computer must be connected to the internet, which it is via wireless connection. I then get the option of cancel or retry, and retry does not help. BlackBerry Help indicates I should get a menu of applications to choose from to synch, but that does not appear. Any action I try to take from the main menu results in same "Your computer must be connected to the internet." This is insane, as it already is. I have turned off all virus protection etc. in hopes that it might be the culprit, but no joy. It also appears that I cannot contact RIM without parting with $50 to get this to work, so I am hoping someone can help. Tried downloading older version of software, but of course it can't recognize the phone. HELP!!!!!!!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Here is a KB that discusses that error:

button inside of their post. Further, if you are the original poster (OP) and your issue is solved, please remember to (on the post that is the solution) click the "Accept as Solution" button so that others can more easily find it. Cheers! Oh...and FWIW...I am not a RIM employee...and these forums are user-to-user...not user-to-RIM.

Have read that posting, doesn't address whatever the underlying problem might be. There is no way to NOT get the error message, regardless of what is tried. Also do not see what the Help pages say should be seen when scrolling through device menus. Very frustrating.
