Google have ended support for their standalone Google sync app. But the calendar and contact sync can still be enabled via BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS). To know more on the issue head to this link: Google Sync for BlackBerry End of Life
Contact your mobile service provider to have BlackBerry data plan and integrate Gmail ID in your phone.

Thanks but I stopped using Google Sync some time ago - it's now slightly better (using BIS) but still not back to how it was in 2012 - still suspect servers.
