Hello all! I am new to BlackBerry devices and last week I purchased an unlocked 8320 Curve from eBay. I've loved it really. I jumped ship from an iPhone because I was tired of not having certain features. I came across an update for the OS as my current version was 4.2. I wanted to go ahead and get it upgraded to 4.5. I consider myself an advanced and competent user of computers. Currently, I really only use my MacBook, so I fired up Parallels and installed Vista in VM. I found an article on upgrading and obtained the 8320M_PBr4.5.0_rel108_PL184.108.40.206_A220.127.116.11_Rogers update as my carrier is AT&T and the phone was originally locked for T-Mobile. I assumed I didn't want the T-Mobile update as I feared that might re-lock the phone (please correct me if I'm wrong though, as I don't know this for sure). I backed up everything and began the update process with the Desktop Manager v4.6. Everything seemed to be going smoothly up until the point that it seemed it was installing the new software.
Now my BB is stuck at a black and white screen, at the top "BlackBerry Platform 18.104.22.168" is written and there are a few apps written in text just below that. AddressBook, Alarm, Calculator, etc. If I try to click on any one of them I get one error or another. Desktop Manager no longer seems to recognize the device and MissingSync on OS X tries fruitlessly to connect and sync with it.
I have my iPhone to fall back on currently, but can anyone guide in how I might either restore it to its previous state or get DM to recognize it so I can retry the upgrade?

Greetings, and welcome to the BlackBerry.com Support Forums.
I didn't want the T-Mobile update as I feared that might re-lock the phone (please correct me if I'm wrong though, as I don't know this for sure).
That won't matter, once unlocked, always unlocked and nothing will change that. Likewise ANY carrier OS for THAT model will work, as long as you delete the vendor.xml file before the upgrade.
Your BB is very likely not bricked. First, I would recommend unplugging the BB from the USB and rebooting the Mac and then reconnect the BB to the USB, then running Vista, reopen DM and see if you can connect again.
If not, I would then recommend you find a friend with a PC.
