I woke up this morning and my Curve 8520 had a blank white screen. It worked fine last night and it has never done it before. It came back on for 10 minutes and then it went back to white earlier today. Connecting to PC and changing the battery does nothing. This is the software version I am running, 5.0 Bundle 1168 (v5.0.0.681, Platform 5.2.0.67). I am not running any third party apps.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):

1. With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
2. Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
3. Remove the battery
4. Wait 15 minutes
5. Insert the battery
6. Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does

This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.

It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:

1. Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
2. Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens

The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.

I tried the steps and it still is not working, it seems that the BB is the problem. I have rung my service provider and am now waiting to send it off for repair, thanks for the help

Nope, still not working, must be hardware. Now that I've done that, if i get another BB will I be able to recover my BBM and all of my contacts? Or is that now gone for good?

From all you have reported, everything on your BB is already lost. So, if you have used the FREE Desktop Software to back up recently, you can restore from that. Likewise, with the FREE BB Protect app. Or if you had your main Contacts and Calendar in a desktop PIM (e.g., Outlook), then that data is still there. Further still with the ability, inside of BBM, to backup your BBM contacts to your SD, which could be used to restore to a different BB.

But, if you have not previously availed yourself of one of the many FREE backup methods, then there quite simply is no source to use for restore. Like insurance, backups are a preventive action...not a reactive one.
