White-screening 8520

Hello forum goers!

I wish I could complete the template that was set out for me to fill out to make it easier for you guys to help, but I can't even get onto my phone.

For the past few days my BlackBerry has been white screening, but it started when the screen start to lag and go a little pixelated. Now it just white screens when I turn it on - but the phone still works in the background. (I can still get calls and answer them.) Now, I've tried battery pulling a few times, even trying soft resets. But that still causes a white screen.

Now-and-again, it works fine, but sooner or later the screen starts to flip out and goes back to a white screen, sometimes even upside down. At first I found the upside down phone quite amusing, but... trying to BBM and text like that? Sorta hurts my neck after a while.

I've tried most fixes I can think of, even took it back to the place where I purchased it from and their excuse was: "You've done this yourself to try get a new phone, we won't fix it for you."

Is there any advice you can give to help with this problem?

Thanks.

Re: White-screening 8520

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:

  • KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode

It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.

If the behavior continues in SAFE mode, then there are more drastic things we can recommend (keeping in mind that, if the problem is a hardware issue, there's nothing we can recommend to help other than in-hand evaluation by a qualified hardware technician).

One thing you may want to do is be sure you have a good backup...if the BB can be running at all (even in SAFE mode) and you do not have a good backup, then I recommend you review and conduct things in this thread:

Re: White-screening 8520

Thank you for your reply and your advice, sdgardne, sadly, nothing happens. I can't even see the disclaimer pop up. I just get a constant white-screen.
I am going to open up the phone and see if the LCD itself is damaged. I've seen a few cases where the may be the cause.

OK...good luck with that...I know nothing about what you are now attempting, so I have no advice to offer.

Good luck!
