WiFi problem reason: Failed to authenticate against the network

Hello people,

I've got a big problem with my WiFi.

He finds my connection, and everything work fine. Until i type in the password, im sure its the good pass, and then the problem comes.

He is trying to connect my WiFi connection, and after less than a minute it sais: Unable to Connect, Reason: Failed to connect to the network.

Whats wrong?

I've used the right password and he find my connection.

I don't understand.

Thanks for your help.

Dirk

Re: WiFi problem reason: Failed to authenticate against the network

Hello dirkb and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.

Are you able to connect to other Wi-Fi networks (such as at work or at a hotspot zone)?

For the network you are trying to connect to, are there other devices connected (such as computers or gaming consoles)?

Here are some articles you might find helpful for connecting to WI-Fi as well as a diagnostic tool:

KB13365 (how to scan), KB13363 (manually add a network) and KB13299 (diagnostic tool)

Hope this helps!

Re: WiFi problem reason: Failed to authenticate against the network

I have the same problem. No one can help me resolve the issue.  Finally after disbling all security on my router I got it to connect, but having no security on a wifi network is not a good idea as anyone can be within range & connect.

With security enabled it won't connect. This sucks!!!

Re: WiFi problem reason: Failed to authenticate against the network

Hello PieDesigns and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.

You can contact your Internet Service Provider as well as manufacturer of your Wireless Router for more assistance with this.

You should be able to have security enabled on your wireless network and connect your BlackBerry - I am able to do so on mine.

Hope this helps :smileyhappy:

Re: WiFi problem reason: Failed to authenticate against the network

Thanks for the advice, but unfortunately I have tried that extensively. There are no more options left unfortunately.

Re: WiFi problem reason: Failed to authenticate against the network

Do you get an error message when you try to connect with the security enabled?

Did the posted articles above help any? There is a section no how to connect to a secure connection by manually adding the network details.

Cheers!

Re: WiFi problem reason: Failed to authenticate against the network

The only resort to try is to setup my MAC address in my router to match that on my BlackBerry. I have a Torch 9800 but cannot find where my MAC address is on my phone?

If you can help me find that I can try that. If that doesn't work I'll have to try getting another router.

Thanks

Re: WiFi problem reason: Failed to authenticate against the network

Go to Options then Device and look for Device and Status Information.

You should be able to locate the WLAN MAC address here.

Let me know how you make out.

Re: WiFi problem reason: Failed to authenticate against the network

Hi again.

Nope its still not working:smileysad:

On my router interface I have 8 places to add mac addresses, do I add my BB's mac address to all 8 slots or only to the first one?

Thanks
