Wifi problem

there is a problem with the wifi on my 8520 because every time I go on the wifi I have to turn on data service and it uses up my credit. My friends that have a blackberry say that they don't have to turn on data service

  Someone help please

Re: Wifi problem

If you have BlackBerry data plan and you browse Internet using you're BlackBerry all your data will be carrier via wi-fi connection. When you connect via Wi-Fi can you see a BlackBerry logo beside Wi-Fi symbol? You can also try by turning off Data Services. Go to Options > Mobile Network > Data Services: Off.

Re: Wifi problem

Can you report this to your carrier?  If you are connected to WiFi, this shouldn't happen.  Also confirm that you have the correct blackberry data plan attached to your account.  You will know your WiFi is connected properly if the blackberry symbol looks like this example below.

Re: Wifi problem

When you connect to WiFi, do you see the blackberry symbol like the picture I linked above?  If so and it still doesn't work, you will have to take it to the store.  You shouldn't have to turn off your data service either.  With the symbol next to WiFi, that is the connection the device is using to ge to the web, etc.
