Wifi radio is is off

I have a blackberry curve 9300.  After having used wifi for months without a problem, I now cannot switch it on.  When I put a tick in the checkbox to activate wifi, the tick disappears after a few seconds.  When I try to connect to wifi I get a message saying "the wifi radio is off" and then "unable to turn wifi on".  I have tried taking the battery out a few times and have also tried starting in safe mode but nothing seems to work.

What is the wifi radio and how do I turn it on?  In all other respects my blackberry works perfectly.

Re: Wifi radio is is off

Hi Cosmiczippy and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums!

Have you recently installed any applications that may affect your Wi-Fi radio? Do you receive any error messages when the Wi-Fi connection disables?

Thanks.

Re: Wifi radio is is off

I have not installed anything and I don't get any error message - wifi simply won't turn on. A local repair shop owner advised that my wifi hardware is knackered and therefor irrepairable!

Re: Wifi radio is is off

I would suggest performing a backup of your BlackBerry® smartphone then reloading the software as shown in the article below:

or

KB19915 - How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBer...
