cannot connect

I have an 8330 (Curve) and have downloaded the desktop manager in order to sinc data. When I connect the cable to the USB I do not get a connection. I have disabled ny anti-virus and bluetooth and still nothing. Can anyone help? BTW I do have Outlook.
