I'm not sure from where your get this but in mobile industry there is Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) which is core feature of mobile service provider NOT DEVICE VENDORS. We use USSD in various form as designed for various services. Common usage are short code balance checking i.e., *xxx#, Service request, etc.
