does Curve use Wi-Fi..?

my GF has just gotten a curve with a measely 100Mb allowance, we have setup wi-fi to use in th home, but when we use it the wifi icon disapears from the top and the 3G icon remains, this tells me its using data via 3G rather than wi-fi-  when turn off 3G Mobile Network it would not load the pages unless it was switched back on?? the youtube app worked with it off

seems like these devices are setup to use 3G regardless of having wi-fi or not-  my Samsung Jet uses wi-fi only if it is connected to a wifi network, then it will use 3G...

how does she set up the phone so it works in same manner?

thanks

Re: does Curve use Wi-Fi..?

Hi snage,

Welcome to the Support Community!

If you are not seeing the Wi-Fi® indicator on the screen, this indicates that you are not connected to the Wi-Fi® network and not using services over Wi-Fi®. Please try following the steps outlined in this Help Blog post to connect to the Wi-Fi® network. "How to connect to a Wi-Fi network using a BlackBerry smartphone" http://bbry.lv/oXh7oV

Hope this helps.

Re: does Curve use Wi-Fi..?

Hi

Thanks for the reply

we definitley have it set up to use Wi-Fi and it works with YouTube when i disable the 3G Radio, but when we access the browser with 3G off it says we must switch it on, so we do and it connects, while doing so the wifi icon disapears...??

however, we have since checked her allowance and she has only used 160Kb, this may indicate that it has been using wifi so far....we think anyway, she has been on a few web pages and had about 30 emails come through - we cant be 100% sure of this - I will test it later when she is back in

thanks again
