internet browsing using WIFI

Hi,

I baught BB curve 8520 recently and tried to use the internet browser after enabling the wifi. It always fails with error ""unable to connect to the internet please try again later, if the problem persists contact ur service provider"

The connection works wih my edge GSM.

I have a wifi connection at home and want to browse using this and do not want to use data plan of the GSM.

Re: internet browsing using WIFI

On your device, go to Options > Advanced > Browser, and set the browser to HotSpot, and save.

Now, without the Data Plan, you can use the browser via WiFi.

Re: internet browsing using WIFI

Hi ,

Thanks for ur post, I still have the problem even with hotspot.

Could it be something with the WIFI connection itself, The wifi at my office is unsecured and open for all. using the same wifi I do not have problems in my PC. even my old phone used to connect properly.

I even installed bolt browser but the same problem.

Is there some extra settings on security or some network configs to be done on the black berry??

Sorry for the questions if it sounds silly, am a first time blackberry user.

Re: internet browsing using WIFI

No, it should connect fine. I can do so even without a SIM in the device as long as you have Hotspot browser enabled.

Re: internet browsing using WIFI

Same problem here, but with a little twist:

I did have wifi on my bb before i put in the sim of my provider (phone is simlocked to orange in Switzerland). When i put in the sim i don't seem to be able to connect over wifi anymore? I don't have a data plan and i am not intending to use internet when i'm not around a hotspot.

How can we fix this? (or in n00b-words; what am i doing wrong?)

Thanks in advanced guys! (and girls of course :smileywink: )

And, you did this?

On your device, go to Options > Advanced > Browser, and set the browser to HotSpot, and save.

Re: internet browsing using WIFI

Yes, I did that as well...

I removed the sim and was able to connect to the net using wifi only.

Is it possible that the limitation set to the 8520 by Orange are going so far that even wifi is disabled so they can charge more data? Or am I now thinking to dark?

Re: internet browsing using WIFI

I honestly don't know in your case. Very strange.

What does big Orange say?

Re: internet browsing using WIFI

 Hi,

I tried without the SIM and the same issue. For me when the problem is that when i try to connect to the scanned WIFI it throws an error "Unable to obtain IP address". My other phone is working fine with wifi without any issues.

Please tell me what are the other settings I should check for my BB to obtain an IP.

Re: internet browsing using WIFI

[ Edited ]

Hi,

The problem of "Unable to obtain IP address" was because my "Data services" in my "Mobile Network Options" was set to OFF.   Now things are fine. I can browse using WIFI through hotspot browser.

How can i totally disable my WAP connection in my mobile, because I feel sometimes while using 3rd party apps like "Bolt browser" or "Google Sync" the data is passed through my wap and bringing my mobile credit down.
