question marks appear in my emails

I noticed that when I send emails, there are question marks appearing in the message when looking at the message on a computer. They seem to appear when I've hit the return (Enter) button. Any particular reason why they appear? Anyway to disable it?

It may be caused by the fonts on the PC, I found this article in a Google search.
