Re: synching 8310 to pc

No, there is no recognition that the device is being recognized.  As soon as it's plugged in, the error message comes up.  That's as far as it goes.

I think this will work,

Use this link to uninstall the current DM

http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB02206&sliceId=SAL_Pub...

Download DM 4.5, extremely compatible with XP, DO NOT load Media manager:

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22

Follow the instructions on USB installation on this post by Zandrex,

http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board/message?board.id=BlackBerryDesktopSoftware&thread.id=3...

After the USB install, install this Microsoft BB driver

http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/search.aspx?q=blackberry

Check the following as well:

Problem

You may experience connectivity issues with the Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports if you quickly switch a USB device attached to a Universal Host Controller Interface (UHCI) USB host controller. If you unplug one USB device and plug in another USB device within five seconds, the host controller stops functioning.

Cause

For information regarding this issue, search the Microsoft Support Knowledge Base for article 816843.

Resolution

Complete the following for external hubs connecting the BlackBerry device to the root hub.

  1. On the desktop, right-click My Computer and select Properties.
  2. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
  3. Double-click Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  4. Complete the following for each USB Root Hub:
    1. Double-click the USB Root Hub.
    2. On the Power Management tab, clear the check box beside Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power, then click OK.
  5. Close the Windows Device Manager.
  6. Reboot the computer.

Install the DM 4.5

Try to connect, Let us know.

Thanks

Re: synching 8310 to pc

Bummer thought it was going to work.  Took out the battery from the 8310, then plugged in the USB into the 8310 then the lap top.  It was about 2 sec, then the message came up.  I'm wondering if the USB is bad.  Also, have not applied any software to the hand held just to the PC.  Desktop software.

Re: synching 8310 to pc

That's why I was trying the cable test with windows.

Can you get another from your local carrier?

In either case. The links listed are the best way to ensure a correct install.

Let me know.

Re: synching 8310 to pc

Hey, you got it to work.  I loaded the 4.5 rev that you indicated.  Awesome.  Where do I go to tell you or whoever that you fixed my issue.  Great job and thank you very much.
