i got a blackberry curve 9320 this week and every time i lock it, it unlocks itself 
is this a feature in the phone and if it is can it be turned off

You are locking it how?

ALSO:
You have your mobile phone number listed as your "My Mobile Provider" or carrier. Putting your phone number out on the internet on these public forums for the world to see, is not wise. To change that, at the top of this page click on My Settings > Personal Profile > Personal Information, and in the entry block for "Carrier" type the name of your mobile provider.

i am locking it with the A button

Ok, and at what point does it unlock itself... what are you doing when you notice such?

it unlocks itself after about 5 seconds
it hapens no matter what i do with it. it goes off if i put it on the table or even in my pocket

Ok, so when you lock it with the A or top edge button, do you see the message "screen is locked. Please press Lock button to unlock"?

no the screen goes blank and after about five seconds it comes back on with out any lock on
