Blackberry desktop software has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I get this message lately when I try to sync my Torch 9800.  It seems to be hanging up when it gets to the media sync, although I am not certain of this.  Anyway, would love some help on this.

Hey JmcL,

Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.

How many songs are you currently synchronizing?  As well what version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager are you using?

Are you synchronizing Contacts, Calendar or Memos as well?

I look forward to your reply.

Re: Blackberry desktop software has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Thanks for your response. I am synchronizing my Outlook contacts, memos, tasks, and calendar. I am synchronizing about 1200 songs. I am using the latest version of Blackberry Desktop Software. It has synchronized several times previously with no problems. This issue started about a week ago.

Re: Blackberry desktop software has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Hey JmcL,

Thanks for the quick reply.

To distinguish what synchronization is failing, can I get you to perform a sync with your contacts, memopad, tasks and calendar only.  Let me know if it completes successfully or crashes.

Next do a sync only with media sync and let me know if it completes.

Once I find out which sync fails, then i'll provide more steps.

Re: Blackberry desktop software has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Hi ViciousFerret

Thanks for your continued help.

Unfortunately, as soon as I connect the Blackberry to the computer and open up the Desktop Software, it begins to connect and synchronize on its own, which makes it all but impossible to control what it is doing.  It crashes before I can make any choices.  I'm not sure how, but I did manage to stop it once.  When this happened, it would not recognize the ability to sync media at all, so I couldn't try to do a media sync on its own.  I did get it to do a successful organizer synchronization when that happened.  Then, as soon as I disconnected and reconnected the Blackberry, I got the same old story.  Before anything could finish synchronizing, I got the error message and had to close it.

Re: Blackberry desktop software has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Well ViciousFerret, I'm not certain just yet, but the problem may be solved.  I disconnected the Blackberry and turned off media card support.  Once I did that, I was able to connect without the usual crash.  Then, I changed the settings on the Desktop Software so that it would not synchronize as soon as I connected it.  Then I re-enabled the media card support and tried again.  When I clicked on Media, the information wouldn't come up - just an error message saying something about the media services not working.  So I deleted all the media from the sd card, then formatted the card, and reconnected.  Right now, it is synchronizing and in the process of reloading my media files to the Blackberry.  Will post again once the process finishes.  Thanks for responding and pointing me in the right direction!

:smileyhappy:

The synchronization worked.  Everything seems to be working properly now.
