I am trying to download on my laptop the desktop sw v4.5, but after I double-click the BlackBerry Desktop Software executable file a self-extractor process occurs, but at the end nothing more happens.
I even tried to extract the files in a separate folder, so that I could execute the setup.exe file, but when I double clicked the setup.exe I got a small window with this message:

I have actually downloaded v 4.3, 4.5 and 4.7, and I am experiencing the same problem.
I have a 8100 Pearl, purchased two years ago. should I perhaps get an earlier than 4.3 version?

Right click on "My computer" and select "Manage"
On the left pane expand "Local users and groups" branch
Select Groups and open "Administrators" group on the right page.
Is your logon-username listed among "Administrators" group members ?

Hi and welcome to the forums!
Here is some documentation on the Windows installer problem.
Please check your registry settings.

wow, frankly a little too tecky for me, sorry. anyhow, I'll try:
are you suggesting me to try to run regsvr32.exe scrrun.dll? do you mean I need to double-click the ".exe" file? what do I have to do with the ".dll" file?
and, by the way, do I need to do this even if my problem is not the same listed at the beginning of the thread you sent me:
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A script required for this install to compleate could not be run. Contakt your support personel or package vendor"
my error is different...

To run regsvr32.exe scrrun.dll command do the following.
Click on Start button on your Windows.
Specify the command regsvr32.exe scrrun.dll
and click OK (see attached image file at the bottom).

Run, but no changes, still the same problem. thanks a lot anyway.
Is there another way to load my outlook contacts into a BB 8100 pearl w/out having the Desktop Software installed (beside entering them one by one manually...)?
