Desktop Software unable to connect to the update server

Greetings all.

I have just installed Blackberry Desktop software version 6.0.

When I choose from the Help Menu "Check for Updates" I get the error;

"Connection Error

Blackberry Desktop software was unable to connec tot he update server.  Verify your Internet connection and try again."

I know my internet connection is Ok, since I browing the Internet just fine - from the same PC.

does anyone have any clue?

Thanks FB for your reply.  I did check the items in the article, apart from sniffing and all checks out Ok.  I am going to try doing this on my home computer.  Our proxy server at work uses port 8080 for Internet access - although, if BB DM uses IE settings, that should not be an issue.  I know I have internet access as everyting else works, firewall checks out, etc.
