Same problem!

 

I am a first time user of BB. I have been trying to sync contacts for a month already.

 

Bold 9900, Windows7 and Outlook 2010. I am from Russia, so some contact names are in Cyrillic alphabet. Tried all of the things and unchecking the necessary fields - it does not work (I have about 1000 contact entries). It seems to be a real issue with the software. Looks like RIM confirmed the issue with "Asian characters" (though Russia is not quite Asia, but anyway). Would be good to know.

 

It is obvious that Blackberry Software HAS access to Outlook and the device. The software READS contacts from both. But when  trying to WRITE to the device after asking a permission to do so from me (I checked this option) - it cannot. First time it gives the error "Unable to move to first row...". After trying to continue and sync for the second it time, It just hangs and only disconnecting the phone helps. 

 

Honestly, I become more and more disappointed about Blackberry... Hope RIM fixes this. I have been a user of Nokia with Symbian OS and Nokia constantly improved synchronization (it worked awkwardly in the beginning too). Hope to see progress.

Solution found! Balckberry desktop software does not like EMPTY fields in name or surname. I removed all of the emptiness and it synced OK. Below is the link to RIM official explanation.

Issue: BlackBerry Desktop Software may hang when an Address Book entry contains Asian characters in the last name field and first name field is blank.

Workaround: Populate the First Name field of the affected contact in Microsoft Outlook.

ACTUALLY there is a much easier way to get the BB Sync to work perfectly without having to go through the trouble of unchecking each (supposedly) empty field.

In the Agenda sync options:

 

1)  just choose not to ask for confirmation AND have BB Sync always pick either outlook or phone contacts.

 

2)  from the last option choose anything BUT Notify Conflicts

 

3) this sounds superfluous but: always have outlook open when you sync. Not absolutely necessary but it works faster.

 

Let me know if and how it worked for you.

I continue to have an issue with synching my outlook calendar with my blackberry 9900.  I get the two errors that are listed in the message strings with the most recent error being "an error has occurred during the operation".  I have had to change my settings to only sync one way from my computer to my device and now that isn't even working.

 

I have also tried uninstalling the software and reinstalling, running cc cleaner, rebooting, taking the battery out of the bb, deleting calendar data from my bb and replacing from the computer and nothing has worked.  It is to the point now where neither a one way or a two way sync works and I am having to manually create entries in both my computer and bb.

 

I love the keyboard but frankly, I am thinking I am better served spending unlimited tech hours learning a new device as opposed to wasting these hours to try and fix something that appears to be unfixable....  and I have tried to contact blackberry support via phone and it is $50 for the call....  If it was that easy to fix, I would expect they would put the fix on the website so I think spending the money on the call would in fact be a waste...

 

If anyone has any other ideas I am all ears

please can u help me where i can find the below :

Went to Advanced options and the Fields tab and unchecked/turned the Sync off for any of the fields that I thought were blank or unused in the Contact, and Synched successfully.
