Desktop V4.3 claims not to be linked to the Internet?

I have received trouble free 'synch'ing between my laptop (XP Pro, SP2) and my curve 8310 using the software originally supplied.  I wiped my laptop with a fresh install of XP Pro and it has updated to SP3.  I loaded V4.3 of the desktop software and it seems to work fine less the error message stating that it need to connect to the internet on the first time to verify some settings.  The laptop is connected as I can move to a different window and receive new URLs.  I'm using a registered copy of Kaspersky as Internet protection.

 

Any ideas?

Have you checked your Windows Firewall.

 

 Start=>Control Panel=>Security Center=>Windows Firewall=>Exceptions.

 

You may have to add the program or just tick the box.

 

Does Kaspersky allow exceptions? You may have to disable one firewall if you're using two.
