How to play god

I employ a dozen employee's and recently bought and set them up with prepaid blackberry devices for them to use for work. The idea being that they would use them for work and keep content secure and safe and not have to use their own phones.

But it recently has become aware to me that no matter how much I ask them not to use it for anything else some still do.

Is there anyway I can monitor their use and control/override them remotely, like from a pc or playbook?

I'm very new to the world of BlackBerries and not sure if to have total control over them I have to set up a server and get the BES or if there is some desktop software I can get.

The main fuction that is used is the blackberry messenger or PIN messaging. Also the ability to remote wipe. They are the only features I wish for my employees to even use their/my BB for.

Too BES or not to BES?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

To do anything even close to what you wish requires full BES...even BES-X (which is free) will not do what you need. You need to create and place restrictive IT Policies onto the BBs so as to control things to the level you wish. In addition to paying for BES as well as the various servers you'd need, you also will then need to upgrade the data plans, from the wireless service provider, for all of the BBs...and that will add cost as well...a BES-level data plan is required to do what you seek.

It won't be cheap...I've no real idea about how much it will be, but you should probably engage a local consulting firm to provide you with a plan and a quote for getting to the level you desire.

You also can investigate hosted BES solutions, but you'd need to know that you can have a custom IT Policy placed onto the BBs you enroll...I'm not at all sure what level of control hosted BES providers give over that.

But, in short, you need BES (full BES) to do what you desire.

Good luck!
